I have a very strong testimony of temples on this earth today. I know that they are God’s house and this is the only place where the ordinances we need to make in order to receive exaltation can be made. I know that we can do the work of the dead here, by proxy, and give them the chance to accept it even as they have passed through this life. I know that as we do temple work, and do the work of our own ancestors, that our hearts may be turned to them and we will feel a great bond with those who have passed and the great work that they did while on the earth. I know that the temple is where we can be sealed to our families for time and all eternity, and the knowledge of this alone is a blessing in our lives, but I know that it doesn’t stop there. That which is bound on earth is also bound in heaven, and we can provide others with this opportunity as well as we go to the house of the Lord and perform the work for the dead. I know that the temple is a place where we can escape the world and feel at peace and receive answers to prayers.
"What a privilege it is to be able to go to the temple, where we may experience the sanctifying influence of the Spirit of the Lord. Great service is given when we perform vicarious ordinances for those who have gone beyond the veil. In many cases we do not know those for whom we perform the work. We expect no thanks, nor do we have the assurance that they will accept that which we offer. However, we serve, and in that process we attain that which comes of no other effort: we literally become saviors on Mount Zion. As our Savior gave His life as a vicarious sacrifice for us, so we, in some small measure, do the same when we perform proxy work in the temple for those who have no means of moving forward unless something is done for them by those of us here on the earth."
President Thomas S. Monson, Until We Meet Again, April 2009 General Conference
“He shall plant in the hearts of the children the promises made to the fathers, and the hearts of the children shall turn to their fathers.” Elder Richard G. Scott, The Joy of Redeeming the Dead, October 2012 General Conference
“Heavenly Father offers to you the greatest gift of all—eternal life—and the opportunity and infinite blessing of your own “happily ever after.” President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, Your Happily Ever After, April 2010 General Conference
“To you who are worthy and able to attend the temple, I would admonish you to go often. The temple is a place where we can find peace.” President Thomas S. Monson, Until We Meet Again, April 2009 General Conference
“I have a suggestion: When a temple is conveniently nearby, small things may interrupt your plans to go to the temple. This pattern will guarantee that those who live in the shadow of a temple will be as blessed as are those who plan far ahead and make a long trip to the temple.” Elder Richard G. Scott, Temple Worship: The Source of Strength and Power in Times of Need, April 2009 General Conference
“The spirit of temple work rests upon them. Every ordinance which is given in the Salt Lake Temple, the largest in the Church, is also given in every other temple, including these smaller structures.” President Gordon B. Hinckley, Welcome to Conference, October 1999 General Conference
"Consider the spiritual connections that are formed when a young woman helps her grandmother enter family information into a computer or when a young man sees the name of his great-grandfather on a census record. When our hearts turn to our ancestors, something changes inside us. We feel part of something greater than ourselves. Our inborn yearnings for family connections are fulfilled when we are linked to our ancestors through sacred ordinances of the temple." Elder Russell M. Nelson, Generations Linked in Love, April 2010 General Conference
"Every member who wants to go to the temple, regardless of age, needs to prepare for this sacred experience. Certain questions will be asked by your bishop and stake president, who hold keys of priesthood authority and are common judges in the Church. These vital questions will include: Are you honest? Are you morally clean? Do you keep the Word of Wisdom? Do you obey the law of tithing? And do you sustain the authorities of the Church? The answers to these key questions reflect your attitudes and actions.” President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, See the End from the Beginning, April 2006 General Conference
"Say the word temple. Say it quietly and reverently. Say it over and over again. Temple. Temple. Temple. Add the word holy. Holy Temple. Say it as though it were capitalized, no matter where it appears in the sentence.” Elder Boyd K. Packer, The Temple, The Priesthood, April 1993 General Conference
"In addition to temples, surely another holy place on earth ought to be our homes. The feelings of holiness in my home prepared me for feelings of holiness in the temple." President James E. Faust, Standing in Holy Places, April 2005 General Conference
"Just as our Redeemer gave His life as a vicarious sacrifice for all men, and in so doing became our Savior, even so we, in a small measure, when we engage in proxy work in the temple, become as saviors to those on the other side who have no means of advancing unless something is done in their behalf by those on earth." President Gordon B. Hinckley, Closing Remarks, October 2004 General Conference
“In all the ordinances, especially those of the temple, we are endowed with power from on high. This “power of godliness” comes in the person and by the influence of the Holy Ghost. The gift of the Holy Ghost is part of the new and everlasting covenant. It is an essential part of our baptism, the baptism of the Spirit. It is the messenger of grace by which the blood of Christ is applied to take away our sins and sanctify us (2 Nephi 31:17). It is the gift by which Adam was “quickened in the inner man” (Moses 6:65). It was by the Holy Ghost that the ancient Apostles endured all that they endured and by their priesthood keys carried the gospel to the known world of their day.” Elder D. Todd Christofferson, The Power of Covenants, April 2009 General Conference
